With a Little Help from My Friends

My Fave 5 for Healing Body and Soul

by Carolyn A. Romano, Bliss Healing Arts
September/October 2008

I am on a personal mission to achieve wellness at all levels of my existence: mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical. After all, if I'm not willing to do the necessary work, I can't expect the people who come to me for support in healing their own lives to do what it takes, right? Right.

While there is much I accomplish through extensive consultation with me, myself, and I -- by going within or connecting with my guides, for instance -- I also realize the benefits of reaching outside myself for assistance. So, I've got a group of people – my Fave 5, if you will – to support me in my mission. The right people at the right time can make all the difference. Today, I celebrate five of the wonderful healers who float in and out of my life.

1.  Barbara "Chantra" Prince is my mentor and teacher. She is a medicine woman trained in the Lakota tradition and chanumpa (sacred pipe) carrier for the Northeast Star Clan. After 15 years of dedicated work with her, I am not the same person who first walked into her office and tipi. She has channeled information, done amazing energy work on me, performed soul retrievals, and sat with me in sweat lodges. We never know what is going to show up when we start a session, but it is always exactly what is needed.  Barbara is in Plymouth and can be reached at 508-747-5482.

2.  Kate Melvin is my reflexologist and a gifted healer. I started working with her about a year and a half ago to sort out some physical health issues. By working with meridian points and "organ maps" of my head, hands and feet, Kate and I have sorted and sorted and sorted. Not only have we improved many of my original physical complaints, but we have also done some unexpected emotional clearing as well. It seems there are some places on my right foot that had been storing some deep emotional wounds. Who knew? Kate runs Reflexology for Better Health in Lexington and can be reached at 339-368-0592.

3.  Janet Kessenich offers sound and vibrational healing session which incorporate LuMarian energy techniques. She uses tuning forks, singing bowls, drums and rattles on and around my body. These tools produce wonderful vibrations that affect my entire system. Combining these with her well honed intuition and ability to move energy as she works with each of my chakras allows Janet to identify any emotional, physical, or spiritual issues that are ready to be released for healing. Janet runs Spiral Energies, www.spiralenergies.com, and can be reached at janetkspiral@rcn.com or 617-926-4155.

4. Drs. Anne Crawshaw and Ryan Adelizi at Road to Health Chiropractic and Homeopathy in Framingham are more recent additions to my circle. I first met Dr. Crawshaw several years ago when my dog Lucy was having some issues with her hips. This summer, when Lucy came down with Lyme disease and was totally lame for several days, I again started taking her to see her favorite doggie chiropractor. We had such amazing results that I thought, "hmmm, why aren't I doing this for myself, too?" and quickly signed myself up with the newest member of her practice, Dr. Adelizi. Progress has been dramatic as well. My treatment protocol was designed after a thorough assessment, including muscle testing/kinesiology and BioMeridian technology that tests the functioning of all 14 organ systems. The resulting protocol involves chiropractic sessions using an activator, kinesiology, homeopathy, and a range of supplements. I certainly understand why they call their practice Road to Health. You can reach staff there at 508-665-4142.

5. June Melia of Fit by June is my fitness trainer.  You've heard all about my experience with her in my article, "Skullcrushers, Dead Bugs, and Frozen Peas: How Weight Lifting Caused Paradigm Shifting."  June knows her stuff and offers me the perfect combination of knowledge and skills about exercise and anatomy and caring-yet-assertive motivation to our sessions. June can be reached at junemelia@yahoo.com or www.fitbyjune.com.

Chantra, Kate, Janet, Drs. Anne & Ryan, and June represent my Fave 5 at the moment. Each plays a key role in supporting me in my wellness mission, and with each beat of my heart, I am grateful.

Speaking of heartbeats, someone once asked a teacher of mine how you will know when you are finished working on yourself. Without hesitating, she said, "There is a simple test you can do to find out."  We all lean in eager to hear what she has to say. "Take the first two fingers of your right hand,” she continues, “and move them across your body to the inside of your left wrist. Feel for your pulse. If you still have one, you still have work to do."

Cute, huh? And all too true. So, my coaching tip for you comes in four, easy-to-follow steps:

(1) Take the pulse test. Do you still have one?  If so, proceed to step 2.

(2) Set some wellness goals. Do you need to clear mental, emotional, spiritual, or physical issues, or some combination?

(3) Build your circle of support. Who's in your Fave 5?

(4) Begin. What are you waiting for?
